Critical Review based on the definitions we found from the literature
Sustainability is related with the future and the present. The procedures and the measures we take
in our constructions have a close relationship. Identification of these factors will lead the
sustainable development in a construction. Sustainable development has gained popular
momentum over the last ten years, the components of it date back many decades.
Sustainable development has been increasingly quoted over the recent years as more organization
jump on the triple-bottom-line bandwagon. The terms have a variety of meanings dependent on
the requirements of the organization. This is largely as a result of a lack of guidance provided to a
fully defined capture what sustainable development means for specific sector and activity.
The above mentioned definitions on “Sustainable Development” shows that it accompanies with
the future needs of a person or a society. And also similarly the definitions are consisting of
“Triple-Bottom-line”. The Triple-Bottom- Line can be defined as environmental, economic and
social goals. It also says that sustainable development is a pattern of the resources to meet human
and environmental needs. It can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations.
One of the definition mentioned above is varied from the others as it claims that the limitations
imposed by the present state of the technology and social organization on environmental resources
and by the ability of the bio-sphere to absorb the effects on human activity.
The group members primary idea was that the constructions should be done with using sustainable
materials, concepts and methods by managing time and cost. “The qualities such as re-usability
and re-cyclability must come with the materials” was the first impression which came to our minds
while doing the first activity uploaded earlier. And also the use of materials efficiently and
effectively is appreciated.
Group Interpretation/ Statement
We as a group identified a proper definition for the Sustainable Development.
“The efficient and effective methods and concepts of planning, implementing and maintaining of
a process in order to gain human needs, accomplishing of future goals followed by Triple-BottomLine.”
