Sustainable Development
Our own views about Sustainable Development
1. Eco-Friendly development of the country with modern technology. (Gunawardana P.A.M.)
2. According to my view, sustainable development means doing developments without harm to the environment, human beings and any other. Because of this sustainable development, the surrounding is made as a suitable, efficiency and better place to live. Under this some things are renew, some things are innovated some things are recycled. As these systems are not harm to anyone /anything. Therefore it helps to success the economy/society and all things. (Prabodhani R.K.N.)
3. Sustainable development means the development that use sustainable design to their work. Sustainable designs include with several features. It’s may be eco-friendly, bio-degradable, durable, recyclable etc. (Kariyawasam K.G.M.D.)
4. Sustainable development is a development which is gained socially, economically or any other mean with the maximum. Use of resources, minimum wastage and destruction to the environment. It means the which process from extracting raw materials to the very end of the disposing material should be happened in an eco-friendly manner if we consider about the sustainable development in the production sector. (Gunarathna J.A.T.W.)
5. Sustainable development is the organizing principle meeting human development goals while at the same time. Sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and eco-system services upon which the economy and society depend international policies should support sustainable development. (Rosairo D.P.)
Definitions for the sustainable development
1. “Development that meets their needs and aspirations; and ‘development that improves the quality of human life while living within the carrying capacity of supporting eco-systems” (Mitchell, May & McDonald, 1995).
2. “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Bayley & Strange, 2008).
3. “This malleability allow programs of environment or development, places from local to global and institutions of government, civil society business and industry to each project their interests, hopes, and aspirations onto the banner of sustainable development” (WCED, 1987).
Comparing of three definitions
Mitchell, May & McDonald and Bayley & Strange have mainly considered about human needs and aspirations. They defined that sustainable development is valuable for to do activities eco-friendly. Therefore it is used to develop the success of future beings. WCED also has mainly consider about the eco system. It has deeply considered about human needs and aspirations by using institutions of government , civil society business and industry to each project their interests, hopes. Therefore all of these definitions are tried to defined sustainable development to fulfill human needs and aspirations with eco-friendly and efficiently.
Comparing of definitions and our own views
According to the above our views and definitions, many similarities can be identified. Being eco-friendly is mentioned from all of us and the main idea of sustainable development is also being eco-friendly. When we consider about the overall idea of our views, making a better environment, a better economy and a better social conditions are the most important areas that we considered, at the sustainable development. But all of we didn’t consider about the future benefits from this development.
Group interpretation for the sustainable development
Sustainable development means using of limited resources efficiently at the present and also considering the future generation using resources in a proper way including economic, environment and social section.
