Forestation Programs
Reforestation is the consequence of deforestation. The act of re- growing trees in an area or land surface is reforestation.Today we are standing at the threshold of an imminent crisis with rapid climate change, global warming and greenhouse effect. The earth is gradually losing its biodiversity as more and more animals are forced out of their natural habitat. The only way to check thee adverse effect is reforestation.
Advantages of forestation
• Oxygen Carbon dioxide balance- The process of photosynthesis release oxygen and therefore helps to maintain the CO2, O2 balance. Less carbon dioxide means less pollution and less global warming.
• Preventing soil erosion- This environmental hazard caused due to deforestation. Trees prevent or reduce soil erosion and water contamination.
• Maintain water cycle- Trees are natural storage system of rainwater and slows down the aridity of the atmosphere.
• Transpiration- Helps to restores moisture of the atmosphere and helps maintain the temperature in the local environment.
Because of those reasons, we have to protect the forests and reduce the deforestation: For that following programs take place in the society:
1. Integrated social forestry program (ISFP) - address the twin problems of rural poverty and ecological stability in occupied forests lands.
2. National forestation program (NFP) – address about the reforestation, watershed rehabilitation and timber stand improvement.
3. Forest land management agreement (FLMA) – provides a long term tenure to the people who plant and care for trees in newly reforested areas by granting farmers access to these areas for purposes consistent with sound ecological principles.
4. Community forestry program (CFP) – Target about the fragmented residual and old growth forest areas.
