Critical review on approved definitions on sustainable development

These are our personal opinions on sustainable development ;

• ·         Sustainability is a way of getting maximum uses of resources without wasting energy .And it is a way of saving energy and get maximum result by changing various fact such as design, technology and using environment. Green building is a one of best concept of sustainability. Therefore, sustainable development is development of those areas related to buildings for get maximum result of them in sustainable way.
• ·         Sustainable development is develop the society, other related things and needs without disturbing the nature and without disturbing the future generations. The sustainable development should be fulfil through economical sustainability, social sustainability and environmental sustainability.
• ·         Sustainable development is a development or an improvement of environment, society, or human using resources in the environment or human resources without any harm to the society in efficient and effective way.
• ·         Sustainable development is a way for people to use resources without the resources running out sustainable development is a pattern of resources use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met for future generation.
• ·         Sustainable development, which meet human needs without affecting integrity and stability of the natural systems. The objective could be human’s needs and aspirations such as food, clothing, etc. It could be the development of sustainable materials, which have low embodied energy, environmental friendly, recyclable, reusable. Scarcity, economic factors will affect the sustainable development. Because resources are limited. But using the knowledge those resources can be reused. According to the human race, earth warming and other natural disasters, need for these sustainable material, and their development increased.
• ·         Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generation meet their own needs. Generally development is gradual growth of a situation that becomes more advanced and strong than previous one. Development is intended to bring a positive charge for human being and its surround development may take place by bringing about a charge policy, project and legislation.

These are approved definitions on sustainable development ;

• ·         “Meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”(Brudtland 2012)
• ·         “Sustainable development is the organizing principle for meeting human development goals while at the same time sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the economy and society depend”.
• ·         "The accelerating deteriorations of the human environment and natural resources and the consequences of that deterioration for economic and social development” (Strange and Bayley, 2008)

Similarities of approved definitions

When considering the report of Brundtland Commission definition it tells that sustainable development should be done without harming the future generations. It means this development should be carried out without compromising present generation resources as well as future generation resources by protecting environment. Third approved definition also has the same idea.

When we compare with the third definition of our group member, it is also clearly stated that sustainable development should be done without doing any harm to the environment, society, or human using resources in the environment or human resources.

By considering the second definition it clearly stated that sustainable development is also related to the human development. We can achieve a lots of human development goals by the sustainable development. This also will help for the future generations as well as present generations.

According to the first definition of our group member, it says that sustainability is a way of getting maximum uses of resources without wasting energy. It also coincide with approved definitions. 

Sustainable development could be done saving energy. Sustainable energy can avoid and reduce air emissions as well as water consumption, waste, noise, and adverse land use impacts.  

Differences of approved definitions

Sustainable development is not just a physical development. There many aspects should be developed like education, income, living standard etc.

Even though approved definitions have been done by protecting the future generations, our group members have not stated such a point. Most of them highlighted that it should be happened by low embodied energy, environmental friendly, recyclable, reusable resources.

Finally our group members have developed a new definition for the sustainable development ;

Sustainable development is a development not only a physical but also related to other factors also and use of resources for the development not harming in an efficient and effective way for both present and future generation use.
