Critical Review
United
Nation’s General Assembly (1987) defined the sustainable development as “development
that meets the needs of the present without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their own needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to compromising the present
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”
but this definition doesn’t describe the real aspects of the sustainable
development and it is not much suitable for current society.
According
to Elliot (1994) sustainable development is an “optimal policy that seeks to
maintain an ‘acceptable’ rate of growth in per capita real income without
depleting the national environmental assets stock”. This definition is differ
from previous one because it doesn’t mention about the future generation’s
needs, also this definition is much more tend to the economical aspect than
previous definition.
Denbarch
(1998) defined “sustainable development recognizes that growth must be both
inclusive and environmentally sound to reduce poverty and build shared
prosperity for today’s population and to continue to meet the needs of future
generations.” According to our group view this definition is better than
previous two definitions because it achieve the aspects of sustainable
development more than other definitions.
Also this definition identify about both economic and environmental
aspect of sustainable development. This definition is mentioned about retain
for the future generations similar to the first definition.
Group review
Satisfaction
of human needs and aspirations is the major object of development. Sustainable development
requires meeting that object without compromising the ability of the future
generation to do it, and in a economically, environmentally and socially sound
manner.
