Land conservation
In
day to day life we see the environment. Since
we born we have seen large changes in the environment. Forest are cut down for
housing, farming, construction, recreational purposes and other land uses. Some
of these needs are required to human life to survival. Therefore nowadays
environmental related societies tender to land conservation strategies.
Land
Conservation is the process of protecting natural land and returning
development to its natural state. Conservation is important to prevent floods,
fires, new desert and drought. It is useful to protect rainforests. By doing
land conservation increase the vegetation.
There
are some techniques to land conservation such as preservation, restoration,
remediation and mitigation.
Preservation
is maintained the land and should not be consumed by human. Human can access
the land but only utilize its natural beauty and inspiration.
Restoration
is returning ecosystem.
Remediation
is the process of cleaning a contaminated area using relatively mild or
nondestructive methods.
Mitigation
is the process of replacing degraded site with a healthy site. A mitigation is
creating a new area that is of equal ecological value. This technique allows
land to be destroyed.
Land
Conservation have two type,
- Natural land conservation
- Man-made land conservation
Advantages
of land conservation
- Increase the organic matter
- Reduce machinery wear
- Reduce labour, save time
- Save fuel
- Improves soil tilth
- Traps soil moisture to improve water availability
- Reduce the soil erosion
- Improves water quality
- Increase wildlife
- Improves the air quality
- Build soil structure and health
Natural land conservation

Forestation
In the university
premises we can identify natural land covers example grassland, trees. In this
also some land covers are developed by man. Example grass land made by man. The
purpose of this land covers are basically to prevent from soil erosion and
aesthetic appearance.
As
well natural land covers provided better ecosystem to live and natural
biodiversity. The above figures identify trees, grassland, bare ground, water
etc. In the land covers the plants that have grown provided a strength to soil
and tightness to soil.
Man- made land conservation
Total
land cover is the surface of land in the country. Including artificial land,
crop land, wood land, scrub land, grass land, bare land, water land and wet
land. In the university premises in several locations artificial land covers
are located. Example inter lock block used in food court entire area. These
land covers use to soil conservation from flooding and other climate changes
effects. This covers provided landscape design to the location. Below figures
the location like tennis court, Baseball ground. Land covers are made to
entertaining purposes. Basically these two categories of land covers conserve
the soil and provide aesthetic appearance. Some time it will cost highly but
there are biodiversity advantages.
