Land conservation strategies
The aim of conserving
land is to protect sensitive natural areas such as river valleys, woodland,
wetlands, and mountains, places rich in flora or fauna or areas of cultural or
historic value. So that people and biodiversity into the future can enjoy their
benefit. There is a growing need to save areas of land from destruction as
natural areas and wildlife habitats are being lost to development, industry and
urbanization. If an
area of land is conserved, it means that the patch of land has been secured and
protected from any hazards to protect the wildlife inside the land. This can
help several species of animals from
becoming endangered or extinct, therefore carrying on the life of that specific
animal or plant.
Reducing
erosion is a method of conserve land. Contour buffers between crops, contour
farming on slopes and cover crops all help preserve agricultural land. Buffers
work for gradual slopes. Contour farming plants crops in rows on slopes in such
a way that water running downhill is utilized by crops lower on the hill. Cover
crops are winter crops seeded in early fall to prevent erosion during winter
months. Cover crops hold soil over the winter, while suppressing weeds that may
survive colder temperatures.
Another way of
land conservation is land covering. It means how we utilized the land. It can
be efficient way or not. People
take up gardening, whatever methods they use, their usual aim is to grow a
range of plants very few of which would usually be found wild on their land. Nevertheless,
it can be harmful to the soil. Then easily can be happen soil erosions. By
growing grass and making the grasslands and doing landscaping activities such
as construct a retaining walls, attaching the tile bocks can be minimize the
land pollution. Then automatically land conservation is happen.
In university of
Moratuwa is a located at urban area. In that area foot print is covered with
lot of industrial buildings and residential buildings. Consider the above
picture there is no conservation way of land in this area. Therefore, land will
collapse day by day. But we could found some areas in our university with good
land conservation strategies. For the examples inform of the examination
department there was an empty land with trees and grasses. In that area grass
covering area act as a land conservation method.
In
university of Moratuwa we can found some land areas with cement tile bocks and
interlocking tiles. It also helps to keep land and soil without collapse.
Otherwise soil can be collapse because of heavy rainy situations.
Another
way of land conservation in university of Moratuwa near the Building Economics
class room there was a retaining wall to avoiding the soil erosions.
