Land conservation strategies:
Land
is one of the most valuable and useful natural resources. Due to various
reasons such as deforestation, soil erosion, mining, agriculture etc, currently
this valuable resource has faced a critical state of destruction. Therefore the
attention has been drawn worldwide, to protect or conserve land and make it
available for the needs of the future generation as well. If explained simply,
land conservation is the process of protecting natural land and recovering the
contaminated or destroyed land to its original state.
Land
coverings are one of the most commonly used strategies for land conservation. A
Land
cover is a physical
material that is used to cover and protect the surface of the earth. Land
covers include grass, asphalt, trees, bare ground and so on.
When discussing the land coverings that can be
identified within the University of Moratuwa, grass, tiles, cement blocks can
be highlighted.
