Strategies of Sustainable use of resources

Sustainable development is considered for the well-being of the environment and for the economies of people which includes the future development in a project. In construction, environment friendly, recyclable, low energy embodied, biodegradable materials are used. When it be considered about the materials, main sustainable concepts of the construction materials are

Metal	Reduce Recycle Reuse	Non-renewable	Only can be found at special areas called iron ores. Only small amount of required  metals ar3e prevail in Sri Lanka and remaining to be imported.	Metals are one of mostly used materials in the construction industry which cannot be easily renewable. But prevailing amount of material can be recyclable, reuse and can be reduce with the design and also to be convert in to different kind of metals.
Ceramic	Reduce	Non-renewable	Only can be found at special areas in Sri lanka and some amount to be import as well	Mostly ceramic is used for the finishing of the construction. And it cannot be renewable, recycle or reuse.
Glass	Reduce Recycle Reuse	Non-renewable	Can be found in Sri Lanka but at special areas.	Glass cannot be renewable but it can be 100% recycle and reduce also reuse.
Cement	Reduce	Non-renewable	Can be found Sri Lanka but only at special locations only	Cannot be reuse or recycle. Can be reduce during the design. Also can use substitutions instead of cement for non-load bearing walls.
Timber	Reduce	Renewable	It is local regional material, mostly available in every part of  our country.	Cannot be either reuse or recycle. But it can be greatly preserved to long last for considerable time. It can be preserve with coat or convert in to plywood.
